JOHOR BARU: Police seized more than 4.6kg of heroin, with a street value of RM2.32 million, and arrested three suspected traffickers on Tuesday.
State police chief Datuk Mokhtar Shariff said a team from the federal police narcotic department detained a suspect at a restaurant at Permas Jaya here about 5pm.They found a set of car keys on the 42-year-old jobless man that led them to his Perodua Kenari, parked near the restaurant.In the car, police found 10 packets of substance, believed to be Heroin 3. Interrogation of the man led to the arrest of the two other suspects, aged 28 and 29, in Skudai four hours later.


The three have been remanded, Mokhtar told a Press conference here yesterday. Police have arrested 298 suspects for drug trafficking so far this year. Police also arrested nine men and a woman, age between 20 and 28, in a house in Taman Sri Skudai here on Monday who are members of a gang responsible for at least 15 robberies in Kulai Jaya and Skudai.They also seized six parang, two choppers, gloves and ski masks


RM1m spent on Proton Perdana car repairs By Syed Umar Ariff


A TOTAL of RM1.028 million was spent to maintain and repair 14 Proton Perdana executive cars used by the state executive councillors and high-ranking senior officers in Johor since 2005.
Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said this year, the Proton Perdana with registration plate number JDT 7 used by state Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Committee chairman incurred the highest maintenance cost at RM62,331.30. During the four-year period, the Proton Perdana with registration plate number JDT 12 used by state Youth and Sports Committee chairman had the highest overall maintenance cost at RM122,961.06."The cars are sent for repairs or service after a decision by the mechanical division of the Works Department," said Ghani in replying to Dr Mohammad Taslim (Pas-Maharani).Ghani said nine companies were commissioned to provide repair works to the official cars.

They are Y.L. Auto Sdn Bhd, Kar Konsep Sdn Bhd, Scania (M) Sdn Bhd, High Grade Garage Sdn Bhd, Teraju Megah Sdn Bhd, JP Kemunchak Sdn Bhd, New Sankyo Enterprise, Perkhidmatan Kimpalan Kenderaan Ri Jia and Alam Biro Auto.


Upgrades for bus terminal


EFFORTS are being made to ensure the Larkin bus terminal is comfortable for both passengers and traders, said state Local Government, Housing, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Zahri Jamil.

In replying to Adam Sumiru (BN-Tanjung Putri), Ahmad Zahri said Damansara Assets Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Johor Corporation, was embarking on a project to add more business premises and a mosque, Masjid An-Nur, at the bus terminal."The terminal is undergoing an expansion project to provide bigger space and better comfort for passengers and traders," said Ahmad Zahri.He added that an additional two lots for long-distance taxis had been provided at the ground floor, together with 16 sheltered parking lots and 21 open parking for taxis.
He also said there were plans to upgrade the bus terminal into a business complex
