
Number Of Singaporeans Becoming Crime Victims In Johor Drops
JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 11-- The Johor police today refuted Singapore media reports which claimed that Singaporeans had become frequent targets of major crimes in the state.Johor Police Chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said that based on police records, the number of Singapore nationals becoming crime victims in the state had been declining this year."Based on the records from January to October this year, the number of violent crimes involving Singaporeans dropped to 26 compared with 47 for the same period last year."The number of robberies stood at 24 compared with 43 cases for the same period while the number of cars stolen dropped to 14 from 15 cases last year," he said at the Johor Contingent Police Headquarters, here Tuesday.He said this when commenting on the frequent media reports in the neighbouring island state which continued to portray that Singaporeans had become the main targets of crimes especially robberies in Johor particularly in the Johor Baharu city.Mohd Mokhtar said that on the average, between 830,000 and 850,000 Singapore nationals entered Johor each month between January and October this year and the police were constantly making efforts to cooperate with the public to check crime in the state.He said that for the month of October, there was a drop of 11.37 per cent in the crime rate in the state compared with the previous month.His department had succeeded in solving 42.18 per cent of the crimes in Ooctober, he added.
Deadly Concoction In Molotov Cocktail Attack On Wine Businessman's House
JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 11 -- It was a deadly concoction when a wine businessman became the target of a molotov cocktail attack at his double-storey house in Permas Jaya early Monday.Several Molotov cocktails were hurled at the man's house, badly damaging his Toyota Harrier and Nissan X-Trail costing RM500,000, and the porch in the incident about 2.30am.At the time, the victim, who wished to be identified only as Wong, was asleep with his wife and three children.Wong, in his 40s, said he was baffled by the incident as a security guard was stationed at the house.He declined to comment when asked if the molotov cocktail incident was linked to a grudge against him or his family.Johor CID chief SAC II Amer Awal believed the incident could have been the result of business rivalry.He said the police wanted to contact the security guard to facilitate investigations
