JOHOR BAHRU, The Johor government has earmarked 404.69 hectares of land in Tanjung Ayam, Kota Tinggi for another development related to the oil and gas industry.Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said the project, costing billions of ringgit and to be announced soon, would be undertaken by a local and United States-based company."We hope the project which involves the storage and blending of oil and gas products would get going this year," he said.Ghani was speaking to reporters after he officially opened Eco Greens, the green zone of the 383.64 hectares Setia Eco Gardens Town Park housing project by SP Setia Berhad located at Jalan Gelang Patah-Ulu Choh, 27km from here on Monday.He said the US company was very keen to invest in the project on the state-owned land, adding that the strategic location and its deep sea had made Johor the favourable choice to set up the oil and gas-related project.Furthermore, Johor has the advantage of space and competitive in terms of cost.The oil and gas products would be catered for the eastern region market, he said.On the proposed RM17 billion worth of investments in the oil and gas project in Teluk Ramunia, Ghani said the state government was still looking at the joint-venture between the Middle East investor and countries with demands for the products.Expected to take place in five to seven years' time, the project would be the largest single foreign direct investment to Johor.Ghani also said that with the oil and gas related projects in the pipeline, Johor would need a new port after the Johor and Tanjung Pelepas ports.
