KOTA TINGGI, Local residents welcome the building of a third bridge linking Johor and Singapore from the east side of the state as proposed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak as it will spur economic growth in Pengerang and Desaru."Hopefully, with the bridge, more foreign tourists will come to Pengerang and Desaru," Pengerang Fishermen's Association acting chairman Abu Bakar Mohamad told Bernama Friday.

He said the arrival of more tourists especially to Desaru, known for its beautiful, long beach, would boost the tourism industry in this part of Johor.
According to Abu Bakar, Pengerang, although not as well-known as Desaru, was popular with Singaporeans for its fresh seafood, especially lobsters.

Najib at a press conference with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said Friday that Malaysia had proposed to the republic to build a new bridge linking east Johor with the island republic.
The new bridge, according to Najib, would further facilitate the movement of people, goods and services between the two countries.Najib who arrived in Singapore last evening for a two-day official visit, said the new bridge would also spur development in east Johor like Pengerang and Desaru which had big economic potential.
